Use (ONLY) the half-square triangle block, in any size(s) you want: http://quilting.about.com/od/quickpiecingtechniques/ss/halfsquaretria.htm

FABRIC: any prints, solids whatever you want, but to define your color scheme, choose one of the bottles currently in your shower (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, etc.), and use only colors found on that one bottle.

Quilt Challenge #2

For our second quilt challenge, Mom Wenzel challenged us way outside our comfort zone with creating a 'Mojo Doll' rather than a pieced quilt. Here are the results.

The specifics of the challenge:

Create your own Mojo Doll - a personal good luck charm
I found this in Quilter's Home Magazine; they are having a contest and I thought it would be fun
Cut out the pattern and start slapping it together. Include items or ideas of what is important to you; wishes, dreams, etc. Just have fun and make it your own.
If you choose, add a few comments of what and why.

'My Mojo is about me: wrinkles, pearls, obsessed with ribbons (hair), love for my family (heart), love to stitch (thimble earrings), and check out the bling!

My wishes: thin waist and big hair
On my 'cape of hopes': to keep making quilts, remain mobile, get better at computer skills and become an art quilter.'

For mine, I wanted to incorporate all the fabrics that I love the most, plus give her big fat braided hair, which I have always wanted.

Mouse Mitten

Whenever I work from home I set up the laptop
on the countertop at the bar. Unfortunately the
Silestone is VERY COLD and after about
10 minutes I can't get warm.

So I made myself a mouse mitten to keep
my wrist, palm and fingers warm.

My felted sweater project

When I was home over the holidays, my Mom & I went on a wool sweater hunt at some local thrift stores, and felted (fulled) what we found. I was determined to create a new sweater out of whatever I found, and I came up with this. Sewing the felted pieces together was much easier than I feared- adding the non-stretchy trim was not quite as easy.

Scent Holder Ornament

Directions for a crocheted ornament designed to hold a

'Scentportable' fragrance refill from Bath & Body Works:

Materials Needed:

Size 10 Crochet Thread
Size B/1-2.25mm crochet hook
3.5" x 6.5" piece of cotton fabric to match crochet thread
Pinking shears
sewing needle with eye large enough for crochet thread

Directions:

Create backing for ornament: Trace (2) 3" circles on the cotton fabric, cut out. Pin together with right sides facing. Sew an exact 1/4" seam around circle, leaving a 1" opening. Using pinking shears, cut just outside stitch line. Turn inside out and press, tucking raw edges into opening. Stitch opening closed.
Crochet front of ornament: ch 7; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: ch 1, sc in ring, ch 7, work picot (sl st in 4th ch from hook), * ch 3, sc in ring, ch 7, work picot; repeat from * 3 more times, dc in 1st sc to form last ch-3 sp: 10 ch-3 sps.
Round 2: ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp, * ch 5, skip next picot, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * around to last picot, ch 2, skip last picot, dc in 1st sc to form last ch-5 sp: 10 ch-5 sps.
Round 3: * ch 3, 3 dc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-5 sp; repeat from * 3 more times, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch-5 sp, ch 3, sl st in 1st sc: 10 ch-3 sps.
Round 4: ch 3, * 4 dc in ch-3 sp, [dc in dc] 3 times, 4 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in sc; repeat from * 3 more times, 4 dc in ch-3 sp, [dc in dc] 3 times, 4 dc in next ch-3 sp, sl st to top of 1st ch 3. Cut a 3-yd tail of crochet thread, pull through lp on hook to finish round.
Using crochet thread tail, thread needle and whipstitch crocheted front of ornament to fabric backing about 1/3 around circle (19 sts). Tie a small knot and remove sewing needle. With crochet hook, pull a loop onto needle. Ch 15, pull thread through lp to create a knot. Make a large enough loop to hang ornament on tree and tie an overhand knot. Pull another loop onto crochet hook, ch 15, sl st to crocheted circle approximately another 1/3 around the circle. Pull thread through lp to create a knot. Thread sewing needle again and whipstitch the remaining 1/3 of the circle. Tie knot and finish off.
Slide fragrance refill into ornament.
